Project Details

Known for its beautiful rolling terrain and natural scenic charm, the golf course at Shenandoah Country Club is a premier club, located in the prestigious community of West Bloomfield, MI, but for several years, players had also become accustomed to extremely wet and unplayable conditions on the course.

To correct the issue, the club turned to Chris Wilczynski in 2013 to develop a master plan to address the drainage issues. The club recognized the value of the proposed course enhancements and implemented the design changes at holes #4 and #5 in 2015 and holes #14 and #15 in 2020.

Course Enhancements

Holes #4 and #5:

• Redesign of hole #4 by reducing it from a par-5 to a par-4 with newly relocated tees so the landing area no longer sat within the low and perennially wet flood-plain area. Other prominent upgrades to the hole include new tees and fairway bunkers and rebuilt greenside bunkers.
• Redesign of hole #5 by lengthening it from a par-4 to a par-5 and repositioning the green to make up for the yardage that was lost on #4. The hole now features new tees, realigned fairway areas and an entirely new green complex lined by strategically placed bunkers.

Holes #14 and #15:

• Redesign of holes #14 and #15 to raise playable area and improve drainage. The holes now feature new tees, a new green at hole #14, new bunkers and an extensive, state-of-the-art drainage system.
• Nearly 20,000 sq. ft. of new wetland, contiguous with the existing wetlands.
• New plantings which included 33 wetland shrubs, 42 ornamental bushes and 30 deciduous trees were also introduced.
• All tree, shrub, wetland, and wooded vegetation replacement followed West Bloomfield’s Woodland Restoration requirements.
